Sterns Laundry Sold to New Owners

Sterns Laundry, PEI’s leading laundry service has been sold to new owners, effective January 18, 2022. Previous owners Terry and Nora McKenna, who have owned the business for 20 years have sold to Andrew Bonnell and Heather MacAulay, in a deal facilitated by Confederation M&A.

Sterns Laundry was first opened by E.D. Sterns in Charlottetown in 1889, making it one of PEI’s longest running businesses. In the early 1960s, the business was purchased by Terry’s father, Joe McKenna. Terry grew up working in his father’s business and he and his wife Nora took over ownership in the early 2000s. Sterns Laundry employs between 20 and 30 staff and offers commercial laundry service as well as dry cleaning.

“Sterns Laundry has been in our family for over 60 years”, said Terry McKenna. “Nora and I are proud to have owned and operated Sterns for over 20 years and we are grateful to have had an incredible team to work with every day. We know our staff and customers will be in great hands with Andrew and Heather.”

Andrew and Heather look forward to carrying on the McKenna’s legacy “We’re excited about this new venture”, said Andrew Bonnell. “It’s clear that Terry and Nora have made a positive impact in our community and we’re honored to continue working to serve current and future customers”

While new owners are in place, Terry and Nora will stay on for a period of time to ensure a smooth transition to the new owners.
